Ways to Honor Steve’s Memory

Steve supported grassroots organizations for causes he held close to his heart, and donations are welcome at the following:

Musical Empowerment

Musical Empowerment gives underprivileged children free access to music education by pairing them with mentors and providing them with a musical instrument through a free lending program. Studies show that low-income students involved in the arts are five times more likely to graduate high school and twice as likely to graduate college, and Musical Empowerment is committed to giving these kids that chance. The program has chapters across the country and provides resources for students and their families. Plus any child who stays in the program for three years is gifted their instrument– an avoided cost that can deter even the most willing family from continuing a musical education.

Queer Food Foundation

Queer people have long been a vital presence in the food industry, yet they are often underrepresented when it comes to discussions, resources, and intersectional identities ranging from farmworkers and growers to waitstaff and chefs to sommeliers and brewers. Queer Food Foundation‘s mission is to be a nationwide resource and platform for LGBTQIA+ individuals in the food industry. Their database links the LGBTQIA+ community to talent, restaurants, and more; their Queer Food Fund services the Black queer community; and their partnerships with the James Beard Foundation and Black Farmer Fund expands educational opportunities and community outreach. From stocking community fridges to bolstering queer food industry community aid, they strive to help food industry businesses understand how and when they can help the queer and underrepresented communities through mutual aid.
