Obituary

Steven Shea Jones left our world on May 4, 2026.

Steven “Mississippi Steve” Jones was born November 12, 1973 to Ann and Claude Jones in Pontotoc, MS. He was an avid golfer, a local musician, pharmacist for many, the world’s best dad to Eudora, and everything to his soulmate, Suzy.

He is survived by his parents Ann and Claude Jones, brother Bill (and Randa and Avery Claire and Andy), daughter Eudora, best friend Julie, partner Suzy, and so many friends who meant so much to him and were considered part of his Durham family.

While Steve called Durham, NC home for the last twenty-three years, you would not meet someone prouder to be from Mississippi than him. He often regaled many with stories of his days at Ole Miss, and if a Mississippi celebrity came up in conversation, you better believe you were going to hear about it. He enjoyed watching the Rebels play any chance he got.

Steve was passionate about music. He played in several notable local bands such as Dry Heathens and Pink Flag, and was the other half of Churchkey Records with his long-time friend and confidant, Kyle. He loved to listen to and sing along and play guitar with Suzy and was enamored by Eudora’s musical abilities.

He was also passionate about his community. He vaccinated most of the local service industry in the height of the pandemic, and was always the biggest supporter and loudest cheerleader for his friends.

His only child, Eudora, was the absolute light of his life and his purpose behind everything he did. Watching her shine and achieve was his biggest thrill.

He will be forever missed by his devoted partner Suzy, who was his primary caretaker during his cancer battle in 2023. Whether they were traveling the world, dancing the night away at a show, or just hunkered down watching Jeopardy, they loved each other with fierce passion and trust. He was at his best when Suzy was by his side. Following music, eating new foods, or laughing—everything was better together.

The impact of Steve’s loss will be profound. He would want you to hug each other big and tell each other you love them.
